Care Instructions
Hand Tufted Carpets
Shedding is Normal. Yes, you read it right. Hand-tufted rugs may experience shedding during the initial weeks due to freshly trimmed fibers.
You don’t need to wash them often.
Avoid machine washing/washing the rugs at home as it may degrade the quality of the wool and damage the backing.
Send it to carpet cleaning professionals who will handle the product perfectly for you once in a year only if necessary.
Just vacuum/dust it once or twice a week. Regularly in the first 2 weeks as it's freshly made.
Dust it regularly just to make sure the wool that sheds is taken care of or use a lint roller to clean the dust settled over it.
Limit the rug's continuous and direct exposure to sunlight.
Periodically rotate your rug to ensure even wear and extend its lifespan.
Do not use sharp objects for scrubbing the rug, be gentle in your cleaning approach.
If any spills occur, blot the liquid with a paper towel or absorbent cloth without rubbing or scrubbing to prevent staining.
For thorough cleaning, seek professional assistance from a specialist carpet cleaner.
Additionally, when a new rug is delivered, it may show creases from being folded during shipping. Not to worry, as these creases will naturally disappear when the rug is laid flat for some time. To expedite the process, you can roll the rug with the pile facing outwards.
New rugs may emit a smell initially, which is a result of packing materials and the rug being enclosed during transit. This scent typically dissipates within 24 hours if the rug is laid out in a well-ventilated area or under direct sunlight.
At times, slight color variations (5-10%) may occur in handmade rugs due to different dye lots, resulting in a subtle difference from the samples.
Use rubber or silicone protectors under furniture legs if placing them on the rug to prevent damage.
Tips for Storing Rugs Safely:
Before storing, it's ideal to wrap your rug in either plastic or fabric to protect it.
Instead of folding, roll the rug with the front side facing outwards. After rolling, cover it with a cloth to ensure further protection.
Keep the rolled rug in a dry area with good air circulation. Regularly cleaning the storage space can help deter bugs and insects.
Refrain from placing any heavy items on your stored rug, as this could lead to potential damage.
Shaggy Carpets
Caring for shaggy rugs requires a combination of regular maintenance and occasional deep cleaning to preserve their plush texture and appearance. Since shaggy rugs have long, thick fibers, they tend to trap dirt and dust more easily than low-pile rugs. Start with regular vacuuming, but use a handheld vacuum or a vacuum attachment without a rotating brush to avoid pulling or damaging the fibers. Shake smaller rugs outdoors to remove loose dirt, as this is an effective way to refresh them without risking damage from the vacuum.
When spills or stains occur, it’s crucial to act quickly. Use a clean, white cloth to blot the area gently, avoiding any rubbing that might push the stain deeper into the fibers. A mild soap and warm water solution usually works well for spot cleaning, but always test it on a hidden area first to ensure it doesn’t cause discoloration. Once cleaned, use a damp cloth to remove any soap residue, and let the spot air dry thoroughly.
Deep cleaning should be done every six to twelve months, depending on how much foot traffic the rug endures. For large rugs, professional cleaning might be the best option to ensure the rug is cleaned thoroughly without compromising its structure. If you choose to clean it yourself, use a carpet cleaner designed for high-pile rugs and follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully. After cleaning, make sure the rug dries completely by hanging it over a railing or laying it flat in a well-ventilated area to prevent mold and mildew.
To maintain the rug’s fluffy texture, you can use a carpet rake or gently brush the fibers with your hands. This helps to redistribute the pile and prevent matting. Reposition heavy furniture periodically to avoid compressing the shaggy fibers, and rotate the rug every few months to ensure even wear.
Finally, protect the rug from direct sunlight, which can fade its colors over time. Placing a rug pad underneath can also prolong its life by reducing wear and providing extra cushioning. By following these care tips, your shaggy rug will stay soft, clean, and beautiful for years to come.
